Overview

Increased awareness about sexual assault kits has been seen recently in the media and the legislation. This seminar will address what is inside those evidence collection boxes, the likelihood of obtaining DNA, and why a backlog exists through a team approach inclusive of law enforcement, physicians, nurses, justice officials and other health professionals who must understand the importance of and impact of how forensic evidence can bring assailants to justice. It will also cover the need to increase awareness and education of the importance of timing, collection, and proper preservation of forensic evidence of abuse and assault victims who access healthcare services within Prisma Health and other services within the Upstate.
