Overview

The symposium is an annual event providing up to date information on science and clinical practice in Obstetrics and Gynecology to the Upstate community.  Lecturers are chosen from the leading medical scientists and clinicians on a National level and from within the Department’s own residency program.

The goal is to provide a forum for the presentation of current evidence-based medicine in appropriate sub-specialties within ObGyn. Participants will be provided with learning objectives supported by individual lectures and discussion with the goal of allowing them to increase their knowledge and make substantive improvements to their practice and patient care.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe the role of BCL6 in endometriosis and infertility
  • State relationship between endometriosis and ovarian cancer
  • Recognize importance of nutrition in the care of multiple gestations
  • Discuss use of wireless enabled glucose meter in the self-management of pre-gestational Diabetes Mellitus
  • Debate postpartum opioid prescribing practices
  • Recognize outcomes of an enhanced recovery program following laparotomy/minimally invasive surgery for pelvic disease
  • Be compliant with federally-mandated trial registration in MFM and neonatology studies
  • Debate continued usage at 6 months following the adoption of a postpartum IUD insertion practice
  • List several medical conditions that put a woman at increased risk of adverse events during pregnancy
  • Describe the CDC's guidance on contraceptive provision, including the Medical Eligibility Criteria and Selected Practice Recommendations
  • Develop contraceptive care plans for women with common and complex medical conditions
