9th Annual Upstate Stroke Symposium
Overview
The Upstate Stroke Symposium is an annual meeting that started as a means to meet the educational needs of providers and other clinical staff offering cerebrovascular and stroke care in the region and seeks to address various gaps during all stages of stroke care, from prevention to acute treatment.
This 9th annual event is designed to cover topics that are addressed in the Joint Commission Disease Specific Care requirements for stroke center certification and to follow the published guidelines primarily from the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association for acute ischemic stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage, and subarachnoid hemorrhage. Due to rapid changes in the stroke care spectrum, including newly released stroke studies, and evolving surgical and medical therapies, medical professionals in both practice and hospital settings, as well as pre-hospital care, are unaware of the new, more efficient means of accessing appropriate care for stroke patients, leading to an increased risk of patient death or disability. This activity seeks to bridge the gap between the current practices through which stroke cases are handled, and the new more effective recommendations.
Additionally, this event is designed to help support our stroke survivor community by raising funds to support community events for stroke survivors and caregivers. The event will also highlight the impact of stroke services on stroke survivors.
