  • Describe the rationale and recommendations in the past for prolonged weekly duration of antibiotic therapy for several infectious conditions .
  • Briefly describe what is meant by "Shorter is better" and review some recent studies regarding CAP and pyelonephritis which demonstrate equal outcomes with shorter courses of antibiotics.
  • Discuss potential deleterious side effects of prolonged antibiotic courses and real world experiences demonstrating a persistent belief in treating infections for longer periods despite evidence to the contrary.
