Overview
Lectures, educational presentation for critical care physicians/fellows/APPs at Greenville Memorial Hospital for patients in the ICU with decompensated cirrhosis, both pre-transplant and post-transplant.
Go to the "Take Course" tab to register/enroll. Following the conference, move through the Course Progress outline to complete the Activity Evaluation and Credit Attestation. After submitting the evaluation, you will receive instructions to claim MOC/CC credit.

![]() | Derek DuBay, MD, MPH Transplant Surgery Dr. DuBay received his Medical Degree from University of Iowa College of Medicine and completed his residency in General Surgery at University of Michigan. He then obtained certification in hepato-pancreato-biliary oncology and multi-organ transplant at the University of Toronto. He currently is a Transplant and Hepatobiliary Surgeon at Prisma Health: Greenville Memorial Hospital and a Professor of Surgery at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. He serves as the Surgical Director of Liver Transplant. His research interests include improving organ donor registration and increasing access to transplant in vulnerable populations. |

![]() | David Schaffer, MD Emergency Medicine / Medical ToxicologyDr. David Schaffer is the Director of Medical Toxicology at Prisma Health, Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at the USC School of Medicine, Greenville, and Assistant Professor at the USC College of Pharmacy in Columbia. He is also an attending Medical Toxicologist for the Palmetto Poison Center. He attended medical school at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, completed a residency in Emergency Medicine at Massachusetts General and Brigham & Women's Hospitals, and a fellowship in Medical Toxicology at the University of Virginia. His government and industry work spans carbon‑monoxide exposure limits for spaceflight and hypergolic‑fuel safety protocols developed with NASA and the private aerospace industry. His research has focused on critical toxins—including hydrocarbons, pesticides, drug-induced liver injury, and pediatric poisonings—and he now serves as Senior Editor‑in‑Chief for Toxicology at StatPearls. He joined Prisma Health here in Greenville in 2024.

![]() | Rachel Sakla, DO Consultation Liaison Psychiatrist, Prisma Health Dr. Rachel Sakla is a Consultation Liaison Psychiatrist who will be joining Prisma Health in August of this year. She completed her residency in Adult Psychiatry at Prisma Health - Greenville followed by fellowship in Consultation Liaison Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. During her fellowship, Dr. Sakla gained extensive experience in the psychiatric care of hospitalized patients and worked closely with multidisciplinary transplant teams, providing mental health support throughout the transplant process. Her experience in collaborating with transplant professionals has equipped her with specialized skills in managing the psychological needs of transplant patients, and she is eager to bring this experience to Prisma Health's growing program. Dr. Sakla is passionate about improving the mental and emotional well-being of patients navigating complex medical treatments, and she looks forward to contributing to the continued success of Prisma Health’s care model. |
