Topic: Updates in Pediatric Sepsis

Objective(s):

1.Define sepsis and septic shock for pediatric patients.
2.Review the evolution of the definition of pediatric sepsis and septic shock.
3.Utilize the Phoenix criteria to assess illness severity in pediatric patients with sepsis and/or septic shock.
4.Recognize the risks of fluid therapy in pediatric patients with sepsis and septic shock.
5.Identify clinical scenarios in which peripheral administration of inotropes/vasoactive medications is appropriate.
