Topic: Stroke in Patients with Sickle Cell
Objectives:
- Describe the epidemiology and pathophysiology of cerebrovascular disease in children with sickle cell disease, including risk factors for overt and silent cerebral infarction.
- Explain current strategies for primary and secondary stroke prevention, including the role of transcranial Doppler (TCD) screening and chronic transfusion therapy.
- Recognize and appropriately manage suspected acute stroke in a child with sickle cell disease, including initial diagnostic imaging and urgent treatment.
