Series Objective:
The Developing Excellent Teachers and Integrating Learning Science (DETaILS) Faculty Development Series will make use of currently scheduled faculty meeting time on an ongoing basis to provide brief, high-yield opportunities for faculty members to develop their teaching proficiency. Modules will cover topics such as learning theory, how adults learn, active learning techniques, different approaches to lecture/course/curriculum design, how to create a useful learning outcome, principles of effective teaching, feedback, facilitation, and crafting a teaching philosophy, among other topics. Sessions will be intentionally practical, with faculty expected to collect a string of ‘teaching improvement pearls’ over time. These Pearls will help faculty create both a useful new teaching output/project and teaching philosophy that can be incorporated into their Faculty Success portfolio.
