A Multidisciplinary Approach to Breast Health: Caring for and Advising your Patients
Overview
Breast health has evolved into a sophisticated and specialized field, necessitating comprehensive education for primary care providers. This educational initiative aims to enlighten them on the array of services available, providing insights into the management and intervention strategies, and fostering an understanding of how to support patients throughout this process. The educational content will highlight when referrals are essential and when routine outpatient clinical management suffices for common breast complaints. A goal will be clarifying the distinct roles of breast imagers, breast surgeons, oncologists, and breast health nurse practitioners in patient care. The curriculum will delve into various aspects of breast health, covering both benign and malignant breast diseases. Topics will include an overview of breast imaging, indications for screening, diagnostic mammography, breast imaging-guided biopsies, breast MRI, and the management of high-risk patients. Additionally, the educational activity will encompass surgical oncologic management and present oncologic options available for breast cancer. By equipping primary care providers with this comprehensive knowledge, we aim to enhance their ability to deliver informed and timely care to patients experiencing breast health issues, ultimately contributing to improved outcomes and patient satisfaction.
