Series Objectives:

The "Learning from Teaching" series aims to reflect the professional development of physicians who apply for and are certified to receive AMA PRA Category 1 Creditâ„¢. This credit is awarded for the learning that occurs during the preparation for teaching, supervising, precepting, and/or evaluating medical students, residents, or fellows. The series underscores the significance of formal preparation and the practical application of acquired knowledge in teaching scenarios.

Key Objectives:

  1. Reflect Professional Development: Ensure that physicians document their participation in educational activities to reflect their professional growth.
  2. Document Learning: Complete the Learning from Teaching webform for each teaching event that resulted in learning, emphasizing the reflection of professional development.
  3. Credit Allocation: Award credits based on a 2:1 ratio to teaching time, ensuring that the hours spent preparing are not included in the credit calculation.
  4. Pair Learning with Teaching: Ensure that credit is awarded for learning associated with preparation for teaching activities such as lectures, case studies, clinical supervision, and mentoring.
  5. Unique Content Credit: Credit may be claimed only once for teaching the same content, even if presented to different audiences. Each session in a series must differ to be eligible for additional credit.
  6. Independent Educational Material: Ensure that educational materials used are independent of ACCME-defined ineligible companies.
