Objectives:
-Demonstrate the transabdominal approach to visualization of the female pelvic anatomy by using the bladder as a window.
-Demonstrate an understanding of the concepts for frequency related to penetration in select the appropriate probe/s for the pelvis.
-Demonstrate understanding of orientation with correct probe marker placement scan the female pelvis in two planes, Transverse and Sagittal.
-Identify key female pelvic structures (Bladder, Uterus, Ovaries, Cul-de-sac) and describe identifying characteristics using landmarks, echogenicity and sonographic properties.
-Identify locations where anatomical variance or pathologies could be visualized (fibroids, endometrial hyperplasia, pelvic free fluid, ovarian cysts)
-Identify the number of gestation (Single, multiple).
-Determine fetal lie (horizontal or vertical) and fetal presentation (vertex or breech) and subsequent management.
-Identify placental characteristics and location (fundal, anterior, posterior, previa) and subsequent management.
-Demonstrate how to calculate the amniotic fluid index (AFI) and normal ranges.
