2018 Cardiology Symposium: Cardiovascular Care for the Non-cardiologist
Overview
Overview
The purpose of this educational activity is to update the primary care community on the latest advances in cardiovascular care. Through a combination of lectures, panel discussion and EP care broadcast, participants will be better equipped to evaluate patients with cardiac disease and assess treatment options.
Target Audience
Primary Care Physicians
Family/Internal Medicine Physicians
Nurse Practitioners
Physician Assistants
Nurses
EMS
Learning Objectives
- Identify appropriate candidates for anticoagulation and demonstrate enhanced knowledge of selection of antiarrhythmic therapy.
- Demonstrate how pulmonary vein isolation is performed and its role in the treatment of atrial fibrillation. Identify procedure risks and long-term benefits.
- Identify patients who may benefit from new device and catheter-based therapies.
- Demonstrate knowledge of risk management, medical therapy and intervention for peripheral artery disease.
- Define optimal treatment strategies for severe hypertension and hypotension.
- Identify maternal cardiovascular disease (CVD) encountered during pregnancy and evaluate treatment strategies to manage expecting mothers with CVD during pregnancy as a multidisciplinary team.
- Describe the epidemiology of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction and the current strategies for management.
- Determine the most appropriate stress testing modality for patients and describe how to document that decision.
- Recognize the increasing role of primary care on the cardiology team and employ best use of technology in cardiovascular patient care.
- Identify initial treatment and referral strategies for patients presenting in the office with chest pain.
- Describe when cardiology pre-op clearance is needed and how to order it.
