Please join us for the 2nd Annual William Schmidt Faculty Development Conference sponsored by Prisma Health Children’s Hospital Upstate. The purpose of this educational program is to provide medical school faculty and community physicians an opportunity to enhance their career with a series of thought provoking lectures and interactive workshops.
This program is being offered free of charge so we hope you will take advantage of this great opportunity and join us on November 12th.

![]() | James N. Woodruff, MD Dr. Woodruff is a general internist, specializing in preventative and ambulatory medicine. He focuses on providing patient-centered care and emphasizes the importance of a strong doctor-patient relationship. Under his leadership, clinicians and researchers work together to enhance the education of medical students, residents and fellows. Dr. Woodruff's academic interests include developing curricula for medical students and residents that focus on general medical care and career planning. In addition, Dr. Woodruff has served as the principle investigator on studies that look at faculty and resident training skills. In one study, he examined the impact of iPads on internal medicine residency training. He has also studied the effect of faculty characteristics on the interview rating of internship candidates. |
![]() | Jason Adelman, MD, MS Dr. Adelman is Chief Patient Safety Officer, Associate Chief Quality Officer, and Executive Director of the Center for Patient Safety Research and Innovation at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center. As a researcher, Dr. Adelman is funded by AHRQ and the NIH to lead multiple research projects focused on Patient Safety and Health IT Safety, and his research has been published in JAMA and JAMA Internal Medicine. Dr. Adelman is also faculty at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), is a standing member for the Patient Safety Measure Committee and NQF, and serves on the editorial board for the Journal for Healthcare Quality. In 2017 and 2018, Dr. Adelman was Named One of Fifty Leading National Patient Safety Experts by Becker’s Hospital Review. |
![]() | Jonathan Markowitz, MD, MSCE Dr. Markowitz is a pediatric gastroenterologist and Professor of Pediatrics at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine-Greenville. He is a graduate of the UofSC School of Medicine in Columbia and completed his training in pediatrics and pediatric gastroenterology at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and also has a master’s degree in clinical epidemiology from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Markowitz has practiced in Greenville since 2006 and served as Chief of the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology from 2009 to 2018 and has been the Vice Chair for Academic Affairs for the Department of Pediatrics since 2018. |
![]() | Sudha Garimella, MD Dr. Garimella is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at USCSOMG and a Board-certified Pediatric Nephrologist. Her areas of interest in education research include skills assessment using simulated systems and quantitative performance assessment. She has completed a Royal College of Physicians [RCP] Medical Educator Certificate Course and is particularly focused on teaching in small group settings. She is the Podcast Editor for the American Society of Pediatric Nephrology and enjoys using social media platforms to enhance medical learning. |
![]() | Mark B. Krom, DO Dr. Krom received his medical degree from the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine – Virginia Campus in 2013. During his pediatric residency at Greenville Health System, he received the Miracle Maker award and medical student teaching award. He then completed one year as chief resident before joining the pediatric faculty at Prisma Health - Upstate Children's Hospital. Dr. Krom works as a general academic pediatrician, working with students and resident in the inpatient wards, newborn nursery, and clinc settings. He is an associate program director for the Pediatric Residency, and also serves as the Chair for the Pediatric Peer and Quality Review Committee. His academic interests include medical education, physician wellness, and mentorship. |
