AAAP Mat Waiver Training

Overview

Due to the ever increasing incidence of opioid use disorder nationally and in South Carolina, this training, provided by American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry (AAAP), is designed to prepare physicians to treat opioid use disorders and prescribe the appropriate medication, and is the first step for physician's wanting to register with the DEA to receive their “X” number for prescribing. Physicians will learn the best modalities to treat opioid use disorders in their practice sites around the Upstate and eventually all of South Carolina, including the use of buprenorphine products as a means to wean patients off other opioids.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe the different treatment options for opioid use disorders
  • Classify the different medication options and determine their place in treatment
  • Be able to recall the requirements for registration with the DEA for an “X” number
  • Determine when it is appropriate to treat opioid use disorders with medication, behavioral modifications, or a combination
  • Predict outcomes based on treatment plans for opioid use disorders
