Stroke Provider Education 2024
Prisma Health places a strong emphasis on comprehensive stroke education to ensure the highest standards of care for patients. The educational framework encompasses foundational topics with a case-based approach, covering essential aspects. The Cerebrovascular & Stroke Center serving Prisma Health has created a CME course for providers. This course will satisfy both the annual requirements for stroke center certification. Attending physicians, residents, and advanced practice clinicians providing services in the Emergency Department and inpatient settings throughout Prisma Health should complete this activity.
The stroke education program also delves into specific stroke measures, addressing STK3 considerations explicitly and elucidating reasons for deviations. Special focus is given to ablation with stroke, explicitly stating the importance of 30-day event monitoring. Furthermore, Prisma Health prioritizes topics such as CTA in OP23, considering imaging perfusion, MRI with and without contrast, and their clinical utility. Emergency evaluation components, including the identification of mimics, malingering, and considerations for pediatric stroke alerts, are integral to the curriculum, with a focus on regional updates and distinctions between Midlands and other locations. The program underscores the significance of NIHSS scales, providing pearls of wisdom related to RMCA neglect, LMCA decompensation, aphasia, dysarthria, and the activation of stroke alerts for cortical indications, specifically CSTK1.
In alignment with a commitment to staying current with best practices, Prisma Health's stroke education program includes updates on relevant topics with a continued emphasis on case-based learning. System processes, incorporating telemedicine and virtual TIA clinics, are explored, along with standardization measures to enhance documentation practices. The curriculum extends to neurosurgery, covering ICH scores, care protocols, and blood pressure regulations. Neurocritical components address SAH, Hunt/Hess classifications, CSTK3, early management guidelines, supplemental order sets, and specific considerations for ICP monitoring during inter-hospital transfers. Additionally, neurology aspects encompass differentiating central and peripheral dizziness, considerations for dual antiplatelet, and exploration of potential dissection scenarios within the educational framework. Prisma Health's stroke education program reflects a commitment to excellence and ongoing improvement in stroke care practices.
