Series Objectives:
The Medical Executive Committee (MEC) is the primary governance committee for the Greenville Health System. The MEC, with input from the medical staff, makes key leadership decisions related to medical staff policies, procedures, and rules, with an emphasis on patient satisfaction, quality control, and quality improvement initiatives. Through the monthly MEC meetings, members learn about what the quality reports say about each facility and align with what is working well and what is not. MEC is the primary authority over activities related to the functions of the System (GHS) Medical Staff and performance improvement activities regarding the professional services provided by individuals with clinical privileges.
Consulting with administration on quality-related aspects of contracts for patient care services; Receiving and acting on reports and recommendations from Medical Staff committees, departments, and other groups as appropriate, including the Medical Care Committees; Reviewing quality indicators to ensure uniformity regarding patient care services; Providing leadership in activities related to patient safety; Providing oversight in the process of analyzing and improving patient satisfaction; Prioritizing continuing medical education activities as based on performance improvement activities and how they relate to care provided in the hospital; Reviewing and approving the delegation of responsibility and authority to non-physicians providing clinical services to GHS patients (e.g., nurses, advanced practice nurses, physician assistants) in accordance with applicable law, regulations and professional standards.
