Series date:
01/01/2026 - 12:00am EST to 12/31/2026 - 11:59pm EST
Series Objectives:
The Pediatric Peer and Mortality Review Committee meets monthly and is charged with receiving and acting upon reports and recommendations from the department and its committees concerning provider performance. This ensures that the hospital assesses the performance of individuals who are granted clinical privileges and uses the results of such assessments to improve care. Cases to be discussed are either identified through Quality Management surveillance for pediatric mortalities or case referrals from individuals or departmental subcommittees. Cases may also come from event reporting or Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations (OPPEs). A case will be assigned to a Committee Member who dives deeper into the case and reports back to the full Committee. The Committee discusses next steps and identifies trends, where possible. Potential mitigations could fall in the area of process improvements, educational activities, and communication/interdisciplinary collaboration.
