Rescue, Austere Medicine, and Survival Course

The Rescue, Austere Medicine, and Survival (RAMS) course is designed for medical professionals of all levels who have an interest in expanding their knowledge of wilderness medicine pathology and enhancing their practical skills in a wilderness environment. Our expert instructors employ a wide scope of teaching methods, balancing didactic lectures with practical, hands-on skills and scenarios. Emphasis is placed not just on the materials learned, but the critical decision-making skills surrounding effective backcountry medical management.

Overview
During this 3-day in-person course, students will learn the latest wilderness medicine skills for patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evacuation. Our expert instructors employ a wide scope of teaching methods, balancing didactic lectures with practical, hands-on skills and scenarios. Emphasis is placed not just on the materials learned, but the critical decision making skills surrounding effective backcountry medical management.

Emergency Medicine
Medical professionals of all levels (MD, EMT, PA, NP, RN, etc) who have an interest in expanding their knowledge of wilderness medicine pathology and enhancing their practical skills in a wilderness environment.

Learning Objectives

- Be able to describe the physiology of medical conditions encountered in wild places
- Be able to apply methods for managing medical and trauma emergencies in the wilderness when evacuation is unavailable or unnecessary

Enjoy three days in the Upstate of South Carolina while learning wilderness medicine principles adjacent to one of the most popular hiking and biking trails in the region. Located between Asheville, North Carolina, and Greenville, South Carolina, our course is surrounded by unlimited outdoor activities. Enjoy South Carolina’s most popular state parks or find your flow on any of the hundreds of mountain bike trails nearby. Bring your bike, hiking boots, or fishing rods, and come learn and play with us in Greenville. Complimentary lunches are provided, and complimentary housing is available as part of this course.
