Medical Education Research Incubator: Foundations of Medical Education Research-Enduring Content

School of Medicine Greenville's new Medical Education Research Incubator (MEDRI) program is launching its educational Foundations of Medical Education Research seminar series. This seminar series will teach faculty the fundamentals of conducting medical education research to improve their own teaching and learning as physician-educators. Specifically, this series will cover the following topics: defining medical education scholarship versus teaching, methodologies for medical education research, Institutional Review Board (IRB) and ethical considerations for medical education research, and theoretical frameworks for medical education research.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this learning activity, participants will

  • Know how to conceptualize and design a medical education study with appropriate theoretical frameworks, methodologies, and IRB approval.
  • Be able to apply the knowledge learned to identify appropriate study designs, methodologies, frameworks, and ethics approvals needed for medical education research studies.
